AKIPRESS.COM - uk Around 50 students of the Banking and Finance Academy of Uzbekistan attended seminars on international financial markets and investments conducted by Dr Ian Crawford, University of Bath, on February 24-28 in Tashkent.

The one week master class was sponsored by the British Embassy and implemented by the British Council in partnership with the University of Bath.

During the week Dr Crawford lectured on topics, including the institutional structure and regulatory mechanisms of European financial markets, EU policy, mechanisms and institutions designed to attract foreign investments, and assessment of the investment potential of the Central Asia financial markets including Uzbekistan’s. Dr Crawford shared British experience in these areas with a view to students gaining a better understanding of how it might be applied in Uzbekistan. The lectures and discussion with students took place entirely in English.

At the closing ceremony Prof Adkham Bekmuradov, Rector of the Banking and Finance Academy, Mr George Edgar, British Ambassador, Mr Steve McNulty, Director of the British Council in Uzbekistan, and Dr Crawford presented certificates to the students to mark successful completion of the master class.

The British Ambassador said after the closing ceremony in the Banking and Finance Academy: "I am pleased that our co-operation with the Banking and Finance Academy is continuing, with Dr Crawford’s second visit to Uzbekistan. We’re glad to be able to help in the training of specialists in an area that is important to Uzbekistan’s development as a successful modern economy."

This was the second master class organized by the British Embassy and the British Council at the Banking and Finance Academy, following seminars on audit, finance and taxation led by experts from the University of Bath and London Metropolitan University in 2012, the British Embassy said.
