Russia has right to place 25 thousand military in Crimea under Black Sea Fleet Agreement – Russian Permanent Representative to UN

AKIPRESS.COM - Russian navy The Russian Federation has the right to place 25,000 military in Crimea under the agreement on the Black Sea Fleet, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin said, according to RIA Novosti.

“They act as they think fit in order to protect their facilities and prevent extremist manifestations, which might lead to safety violation of life and health of civilians. Probably, our Ukrainian counterparts believe these actions are excessive, but they are fully consistent with the notion of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea,” Mr. Churkin stressed in the UN Security Council.

He also responded to comments of the United States Permanent Representative to UN that the concerns of Russia are fictitious. “It seems that Ms. Samantha Power receives all information from American TV. Of course, if one watches only American TV, everything was perfect: there was a wave of democracy, and bad Yanukovych fled, and the democrats came to power without violence,” he noticed and stressed the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine was aware of the wave of violence that swept through western and central parts of the country.

“Not only Russia is concerned about the situation, but people living in southern and eastern Ukraine are concerned, which is more important. Can you imagine the situation when President Obama, for example, leaves for California, and meanwhile Mitt Romney arrives in the White House, and the U.S. Congress, consisting of Republicans for the most part, illegally bypasses all the procedures and votes to impeach Obama? How would American public perceive it? Is that democracy? And this is exactly what happened in Ukraine,” Vitaly Churkin added.
