Vladimir Putin, Angela Merkel discuss situation in Ukraine

AKIPRESS.COM - At Russia’s initiative, Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel.

Mr Putin and Ms Merkel discussed various aspects of the situation in Ukraine, including possibilities for international efforts to help restore stability, the press service of Kremlin reported. 

The President said it was important for Ukraine to carry out constitutional reform aimed at protecting the lawful interests of people in all Ukrainian regions.

Mr Putin and Ms Merkel also exchanged views on the situation in Trans-Dniester. Mr Putin noted the need for effective measures to end what amounts to an external blockade of the region and to find a fair and comprehensive solution to the Trans-Dniester problem.

The two leaders agreed to continue close bilateral contacts at various levels on all of these issues.
