AKIPRESS.COM - A number of diplomatic sources in Washington said Wednesday that the nuclear envoys of South Korea, the United States and Japan will meet in Washington next week as a follow-up measure to a trilateral summit held in The Hague last month, KBS World reported.

At the upcoming talks, the nuclear negotiators are likely to discuss ways to jointly address the possibility of more North Korean provocations, as Pyongyang recently said it could pursue a “new type” of nuclear test.

The envoys are expected to make it clear to North Korea that the three countries will sternly respond if Pyongyang increases tensions on the Korean Peninsula by making more provocations.

The chief negotiators will also likely urge China, the chair of the six-way nuclear talks, to actively persuade Pyongyang to take substantial steps toward denuclearization.
