6,000 Kazakh students to take part in PISA assessment in 2015

AKIPRESS.COM - PISA Six thousand students of schools and colleges in Kazakhstan will take part in the test of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) in 2015, Director of Preschool and Secondary Education Department of the Kazakh Ministry of Education and Science Zhanyl Zhantayeva said.

"In 2015, about 6 thousand students from approximately 200 schools and 18 colleges will participate in the PISA survey. In 2012, 5800 children took part in the test," she said.

According to her, in 2012, the best indicators of functional literacy were demonstrated by the students from North Kazakhstan, Karaganda, East Kazakhstan and Akmola regions.

PISA survey was initiated in 2000 by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) to examine the ability of 15-year-olds to apply academic knowledge and experience in different situations.

PISA program is held once in three years with a focus on one of the areas: mathematical literacy, natural science, competence in reading.
