Japanese photographer sets world record by flying on 156 airlines

Bishkek (AKIpress) - Charlie Furusho Charlie Furusho, a Japanese aviation photographer, has been recognized by Guinness World Records for taking flights operated by 156 different airlines, the Japan Times reported Wednesday.

Furusho, whose real name is Ryuji Furusho and who lives in Narita, Chiba Prefecture, has traveled to around 100 countries or regions to take photos for aviation magazines.

In January, he submitted evidence of journeys he had taken on 182 airlines since January 1996, in the form of boarding passes.

The figure of 156 that entered the records was reached by counting group airlines as one and excluding chartered flights and helicopters, based on the criteria used by Guinness.

Furusho applied to be recognized for the record when he found out that the existing record stood at 108 airlines and realized he could prove he had flown on more.

Speaking at an event at Chubu Centrair International Airport in Aichi Prefecture in May to mark his achievement, the 41-year-old said he is keen to build on his record.

“It is interesting to observe the cultural differences between countries by the food served on board and the uniforms of the crew,” he said.
