Police helicopter crashes in Macedonia killing 4

AKIPRESS.COM - police helicopter Macedonian authorities say a police helicopter crashed overnight near the southern town of Strumica, killing all four people on board, the AP reports.

Police spokesman Ivo Kotevski said Friday that the four members of the border police were killed when the helicopter crashed near Strumica, about 190 kilometers south of the capital Skopje.

Local media said the helicopter was transferring members of the border police when it hit a telecoms transmitter and crashed Thursday night.

Local TV Nova, quoting eyewitnesses, said the helicopter was circling around with no lights and the pilot was trying to land, but it hit the transmitter, crashed and exploded.

Helicopter debris could be seen strewn around the scene in an area of about 50 meters.
