Slovakia to conduct International Gypsy Fest

AKIPRESS.COM - gypsy Slovakia will hold a series of celebrations dedicated to minority cultures, especially the Roma. The biggest one is the International Gypsy Fest comprised of several events, The Slovak Spectator reports.

“Gypsy Fest is no longer an event only for the Roma; on the contrary, the majority visits it too,” arranger of the festival Jozef Šivák said.

“As the festival aims to connect Roma with non-Roma, we've decided to conduct a mixed wedding,” Šivák continued. “It will be a theater performance full of Roma traditions, habits, music and dance.”

Apart from showing traditions, the festival will present some of the country’s most successful Roma as role models. The highlight of the festival is a parade through streets of the Slovak capital. It should feature hundreds of artists, performers and passer-byes.

The International Gypsy Fest has been organized since 2008 and in the past years, it has drawn artists from Slovakia, India, Brazil, Argentina, Sweden, Spain, Macedonia, Serbia, Germany, Romania, Austria, Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic.
