AKIPRESS.COM - Don and Maxine A California couple who had been married for 62 years have died just four hours apart, spending their last moments side by side, Sky News reports.

They died in July. He was 90 and she was 87.

“He adored my grandmother, loved her to the end of the Earth,” granddaughter Melissa Sloan said.

A civil engineer, Mr. Simpson at one point worked for the U.S. Army in Germany.

The couple adopted twin boys from a German orphanage and returned to Bakersfield, where she worked as a nurse and he owned an engineering company.

Two weeks ago, Mr. Simpson was at home when he fell, breaking his hip.

The family took him to hospital, but his health quickly deteriorated. His wife was battling cancer and her health was also declining.

“They left this world together,” the granddaughter added. “It's a true love story.”
