Uzbekistan set to double fruit and vegetables supplies to Russia

AKIPRESS.COM - Uzbekistan can increase exports of fruits and vegetables to Russia twice up to 500,000 tons by the end of 2016, RIA Novosti reported referring to the official of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Management Olimboy Artikov.

Uzbekistan exported 200,000 tons of fruits and vegetables for $300 million in 2013. The figure can rose by 50,000-70,000 tons and the sum can reach $400 million, Artikov added. Around 80% of fruits and vegetables of Uzbekistan are exported to Russia.

Last year, Uzbekistan left behind Poland, Spain, Argentina, Marocco and Italy on the volume of supplied products to Russia.

Nevertheless, Uzbekistan faces difficulties to increase exports of fruits and vegetables to Russia due to bad technical state of specialized transport vehicles of Uzbekistan and strict quarantine measures in Russia.

Uzbekistan produced 10.6 million tons of fruits and vegetables (+8.4%), 1.57 million tons of melons (+10.3%), 1.3 million tons of grapes (+9.2%). About 500,000-700,000 tons of them are exported to CIS states, including Russia and Kazakhstan.
