SCO military chiefs set to improve anti-terrorism operations

AKIPRESS.COM - counter-terrorism Military chiefs from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) have agreed to improve joint anti-terrorism operations, Radio Liberty reports.

The chiefs of general staffs of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan met in Beijing on August 28.

Russian military chief Valery Gerasimov said terrorism, separatism, extremism and drug trafficking pose a serious threat to joint security.

Chinese military chief Fang Fenghui said the situation around Afghanistan was becoming more complicated and “terrorists are rapidly infiltrating into Central Asia.”

On August 29, the military chiefs are due to monitor the final stage of ongoing anti-terrorist drills in China.

Around 7,000 servicemen from China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are participating in the six-day exercises.
