OSCE Centre in Astana facilitates meeting on application of administrative sanctions

AKIPRESS.COM - 1b0011ed158696670d5ae8c89741707c The OSCE Centre in Astana supported a meeting of the Law Enforcement Co-ordination Council dedicated to the application of administrative sanctions that was held on 27 November 2014 in Astana, Kazakhstan, said in a press release of the organization.

The event was co-organized jointly with the Prosecutor General’s Office for some 80 prosecutors, officials from the Supreme Court and the Interior, Justice and Finance Ministries as well as the National Security Committee.

Participants discussed the steps to be taken to improve the system of voluntary payment of fines and enforced recovery in accordance with the provisions of the new Criminal Code and Code of Administrative Offences. Particular attention was paid to policies on strengthening the responsibility of law-enforcement bodies and officials to impose sanctions in a timely manner and enhancing the efficiency of legal and practical tools and mechanisms to better hold offenders accountable for administrative and criminal liability.

A national roadmap on the application of administrative fines developed by Prosecutor General’s Office was presented at the meeting. The measures envisaged in it aim to raise the enforceability of administrative fines, streamline law enforcement activities to collect fines, increase access to online information services as well as reduce corruption and increase state revenues.

The event was conducted as part of the Centre’s long-term efforts to support ongoing criminal and administrative justice reform in Kazakhstan.
