Afghan woman severely beaten up prior to getting burned alive by angry mob

AKIPRESS.COM - Angry civilians burnt a woman alive in capital Kabul after she reportedly burned a copy of the Holy Quran, eyewitnesses and officials told Khaama press news service.

According to her father, Farkhunda, 27, was mentally sick from the past 16 years who immaturely burnt the Holy Quran in front of people.

Officials say that angry mob first severely beaten Farkhunda and when she fell unconscious she was set ablaze near Shah Do Shamshira mosque in Kabul city on Thursday afternoon.

Kabul Police say they are still investigating to arrest the killers of Farkhunda.

Eyewitnesses report that after Farkhunda burnt a copy of the Holy Quran she came under the attack of angry civilians and fell on the ground after moments.

Eyewitnesses add that she was all covered by blood.

Video footages and pictures published on social media also shows Farkhunda on the ground with a group of people around her kicking her and then setting her on fire.

Sediq Sediqi, spokesman for the Ministry of Interior confirming the incident said that an investigation was initiated into the incident.

This is the first incident of its kind taking place in Afghanistan.
