Social Cohesion through Community-Based Development Project launched in Kyrgyzstan

AKIPRESS.COM - Aga Khan new Representatives of the governor's office of Osh region and the State Agency of Local Self-Governance and Interethnic Relations took part in presentation of a new project entitled “BIRGE – Social Cohesion through Community-Based Development in Kyrgyzstan”.

The project aims to identify specific approaches to enhance social cohesion that could be effective in the Kyrgyz context and have potential for integration into a community driven development approach. The project will pilot 10 rural municipalities of Aravan, Kara-Suu, Kara-Kulja, Nookat, Uzgen districts of Osh region and 5 rural municipalities of At-Bashi, Ak-Taala and Naryn districts of Naryn region.

Local authorities of Aravan, Kara-Suu, Kara-Kulja, Nookat and Uzgen districts, as well as of project's target rural municipalities participated in the meeting.

The project team presented participants the concept and objectives of the project that will be implemented in Osh and Naryn regions. Expected results of the project were covered.

Following the meeting, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the project and local authorities.

BIRGE – Social Cohesion through Community-Based Development Project is implemented by the PF MSDSP KG, an initiative of the Aga Khan Foundation. It is a joint initiative of the World Bank and Aga Khan Development Network.
