FAO launched its technical assistance program in Kyrgyzstan in 1997. FAO directed slightly more than $200,000 a year to support Kyrgyzstan's agricultural sector. The number of projects and size of assistance grew in Kyrgyzstan in 2009 after FAO decided to open sub-office in Kyrgyzstan. Full FAO office has been functioning in Kyrgyzstan since September 2012.
