International Civil Defense Organization hands over equipment to Ministry of Emergency Situations

AKIPRESS.COM - emergency2 The official handover ceremony of emergency equipment for the management of natural disasters in Kyrgyzstan took place in Osh city on October 20, the Embassy of Switzerland said.

The Ambassador of Switzerland to the Kyrgyz Republic, H.E. René Holenstein, the state-secretary of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan, Mr. Taalaybek Temiraliev, the Director of International Relations Department of the International Civil Defense Organization, Ms. Saltanat Tashmatova, and the representatives of other international organizations in the city of Osh have participated in the handover ceremony.

This technical assistance has been provided by the International Civil Defense Organization based in Geneva, Switzerland, with the support of the Swiss Federal Office for Civil Protection. It aims to strengthen the potential of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan to prevent and mitigate emergency situations in the country.

Since 2011, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan has been actively cooperating with the International Civil Defense Organization (ICDO) in the sphere of disaster risk reduction. In April 2015, on the 48th session of the ICDO Executive Council, the Kyrgyz Minister of Emergency Situations, Mr. Kubatbek Boronov, has been elected as a Vice-President of this body.

In 2016, the meetings of the Executive Council and the General Assembly of the ICDO are planned to be held in Kyrgyzstan.
