AKIPRESS.COM - The trial batch of Kyrgyz cotton has reached Chittagong, major coastal seaport city and financial centre in southeastern Bangladesh, on May 25, Honorary Consul of Bangladesh in Kyrgyzstan Temirbek Erkinov told AKIpress.
“This successful shipment opens new window of opportunity for both countries as landlocked Kyrgyzstan remained undiscovered for Bangladesh textile producers up to now. Though Kyrgyz cotton volume may not be as high as that of the neighboring Uzbekistan or other cotton exporting nations, it is of a high quality for sure,” the Honorary Consul said.
Since the textile industry in Bangladesh is showing a steady growth, demand for cotton is expected to be high, he added.
Trade between Bangladesh and Kyrgyzstan will not be limited to cotton trade only, but will also include import of woolen yarn, technology transfer in textile sector, such as joint ventures in spinning mills in Kyrgyzstan, the Honorary Consul stated.
Delivery has been made possible due to the consistent work of the Embassy and Honorary Consulate of the People Republic of Bangladesh in the Kyrgyz Republic despite all barriers, such as lack of suitable port or banking facilities, the Honorary Consul emphasized.
