AKIPRESS.COM - Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman hailed Kazakhstan’s accession to the United Nations Security Council as a non-permanent member, saying Astana can play a positive role in the position amid various crises around the world, Tasnim news agency reported.
“Given Kazakhstan’s potential, the Islamic Republic of Iran supported the country’s membership in the United Nations Security Council,” Bahram Qassemi said on Monday.
Kazakhstan is capable of playing a positive role in the United Nations Security Council while the world is facing different crises, he added.
On June 28, the 193 members of the United Nations General Assembly elected Sweden, Bolivia, Ethiopia and Kazakhstan to serve on the Security Council for a period of two years, starting from January 1, 2017. Kazakhstan won the seat reserved for Asia Pacific against Thailand.
