Mongolia livestock population hits record high

AKIPRESS.COM - cattle-cow-livestock Livestock population has reached largest number in Mongolia. The Ministry of Food and Agriculture reported that the number of livestock has reached 73 million heads after the country delivered 19 million offspring this spring, according to Voice of Mongolia.

The livestock population is composed of sheep, cows, horses, goats and camels. Sheep and goats constitute most of the nation’s livestock population. The camel is the least numbered.

The livestock population in central provinces has increased significantly in recent years thanks to improved herding techniques and warmer weather.

As of today, 81% of total 23 million heads of dams have given births nationwide, thus the number of baby animals has become 18.8 million heads. 55 thousand heads of them were baby camels, 568 thousand – foals, 954 thousand – calves, some 9 million – lambs and 8 million – baby goats.
