Kyrgyzstan-born MMA fighter adds to former women's bantamweight champion Holm misery

AKIPRESS.COM - Valentina “Bullet” Shevchenko of Kyrgyzstan added to the misery of former women’s bantamweight champion Holly “The Preacher’s Daughter” Holm at the weekend with a dominating unanimous decision victory over the latter in their headliner for “UFC on FOX 20” in Chicago, Illinois.

Coming in well prepared for her biggest UFC fight to date, the 28-year-old Shevchenko was ahead of her opponent right from the get-go which she kept steady for five rounds, resulting in a well-earned 49-46, 49-46 and 49-46 unanimous decision win.

Shevchenko, who was the number seven contender in her division entering the fight, was very efficient throughout, connecting 51% (110-of-217) of her total strikes to Holm’s 32% (69-of-211).

She also had more significant strikes 82 to 54 and took down the former champion three times.

“I was preparing for this fight very, very hard. I put my heart into it,” Shevenko, now sporting a 13-2 record, said after her victory.

“Amanda [Nunes] is a good fighter. And, of course, I want to face her for the title!” she added, referring to a potential title shot against reigning bantamweight champ Amanda Nunes of Brazil.

Shevchenko lost to Nunes in March this year by unanimous decision.
