Fetullah Gülen may ask for asylum from Kyrgyzstan: Turkish Foreign Minister

AKIPRESS.COM - Cavusoglu Foreign Minister of Turkey Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said that Fetullah Gülen, who allegedly led the failed coup attempt in the country, could demand asylum from a third country, particularly a country in Central Asia, according to World Bulletin.

“FETÖ has chosen Central Asia as its safe haven and Gülen might have planned to particularly escape to Kyrgyzstan. We have already warned them of his possible act. He may even orchestrate a coup plot to any country he will ask for asylum,” Çavuşoğlu said on Monday.

“Anyone, who attempts to overthrow the democratically-elected government through a coup plot, should not be granted asylum,” he called.

Çavuşoğlu also unveiled the government's plan to dismiss all diplomats who are closely linked to the Fethullah Gülen Terrorist Organization, or FETÖ.

“We are acting with great care and attention. We have had cross-examinations to avoid any margin of error. We are meticulously assessing every tip-off and bit of information. There will be dismissal at the level of ambassador,” he explained.

Since the July 15 attempted coup, which saw a faction of the armed forces try to take Turkey, more than 50,000 people from the police, the military, the judiciary and civil service have been detained or suspended.
