Man convicted of alleged assassination attempt on Saparmurat Niyazov not shown alive

AKIPRESS.COM - anna-830x467-830x467 In February 2016, the body of Annadurdy Annasakhedov was handed over to his family members. His name was included in the list compiled by human rights defenders who demanded that those who had been convicted by Turkmenbashi’s regime are shown alive, according to Chronicles of Turkmenistan.

The Turkmen Service of Radio Liberty/Free Europe recently reported about this case.

Annasakhedov was the head of counter-intelligence department in the National Security Ministry. He was arrested in December 2002 and was given a life sentence. He was convicted for allegedly attempting to assassinate the late President of Turkmenistan, Saparmurat Niyazov.

The man spent over 13 years in prison. He had turned 57 when he died. His body was handed over to his relatives on 9 February. He was buried at Seyitbaba cemetery in Sakarchag.

The campaign “Show them alive” was launched a few years ago. The majority of convicted individuals whose names were included in the list compiled by human rights activists are held incommunicado and deprived of the opportunity to keep in touch with their families. Moreover, it is not known whether they are alive or not.
