AKIPRESS.COM - As part of its ongoing cooperation with Kazakhstan to counter terrorism, the U.S. Embassy in Astana hosted a graduation ceremony and demonstration of explosives-detection skills by Kazakhstani K9 specialists and their dogs on September 27, the Embassy told AKIpress.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, U.S. Ambassador George Krol said: “Thanks to our government counterparts, practical exercises took place at Astana International Airport, the railway station, the EXPO 2017 site as well as other locations around the city. This training has increased the capabilities of the Kazakhstani law enforcement agencies to deter, detect and mitigate potential terrorist threats.”

The U.S. Embassy’s International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL) Section jointly with the OSCE Programme Office in Astana and the Austrian Ministry of Internal Affairs supported the participation of six Kazakhstani officers at a two-month explosives-detection course at the Canine Center in Bad Kreuzen, Austria.

The officers represented the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Guard and the State Protection Service.
