South Korea reportedly tightens visa rules for Mongolians

AKIPRESS.COM - South Korea intends to tighten visa rules for Mongolians, according to News.mn.

Thus, the number of Mongolians who've applied for visas to South Korea increased in recent months, says Shin Sang Kyun, First Secretary at Korean Embassy in Ulaanbaatar.

The total of 34 thousand Mongolians applied for visas to South Korea in 2014 and 56 thousand – in 2015. However, during first nine months of 2016, the number of applicants has increased sharply to 47 thousand. This had caused pressure on the consular services of the South Korean Embassy, which was forced to extend the "response time" for visa applications from one week to ten working days.

The new rule came into effect from 17 October.

There are currently some 24,000 Mongolians living in South Korea, including married migrants, labor migrants and students.
