They said the 27-year-old woman and the two girls, seven and nine, had been killed but gave no further details.

The gruesome discovery in the town of Aabenraa was made on Sunday, after a concerned relative told police he had not heard from them for days.

The police are looking for the woman's husband, saying he is a suspect.

Reports in the Danish press say that the husband, who is the father of the two girls, did not live with the family.

The family arrived in Denmark last year and later received refugee status.
