Kyrgyzstan votes in landmark constitutional referendum

AKIPRESS.COM - Kyrgyzstanis are going to polls Sunday in a pivotal referendum to decide whether to adopt or not the proposed changes to the country’s constitution.

There are also elections of local council members ongoing along with the referendum.

The polls opened 8 AM Bishkek time (GMT+6) and will run until 8 PM.

1,900 polling stations for local elections and 2,381 polls for nationwide referendum are there across Kyrgyzstan.  

2.313 million citizens of Kyrgyzstan are eligible to choose local authorities, and 2.851 million - to decide on the proposed constitutional amendments, the State Registration Service said. 

14,000 Kyrgyzstanis will vote abroad.
