Belarus, Tajikistan eager to expand regional cooperation

AKIPRESS.COM - Ambassador of Belarus to Tajikistan Oleg Ivanov visited Tajikistan's Sughd region, BelTA reports.

The Ambassador met with Sughd region governor Abdurahmon Qodiri and Khujand Mayor Sharif Sharifzoda.

During the meeting the sides discussed the state and prospects of trade, economic, and humanitarian cooperation between Belarus and Sughd region at the regional level.

The sides spoke highly of the level of bilateral cooperation in 2016. They noted there is interest in expanding the cooperation in accordance with the existing agreements signed with Minsk Oblast and Vitebsk Oblast. Oleg Ivanov also met with representatives of the business circles and the banking industry of Tajikistan.

The meetings focused on ways to increase Belarusian export to the region. Close attention was paid to deliveries of Belarusian mechanical engineering industry products, products made by the petrochemical industry, light industry, and food industry, including on international leasing terms. Apart from that, the sides discussed problems involved in the operation of Belarusian distribution chains in Sughd region, including aftersales service of Belarusian machines and vehicles, the availability of spare parts, the training of technical specialists and sales specialists.

Work plans for the year 2017 were discussed.
