Young musicians from Kyrgyzstan perform in Oxford

Kyrgyz musicians from the Youth Chamber Orchestra of TURKSOY have performed in the Sheldonian Theater of Oxford on July 25. It was the Orchestra's first English performance among the concerts. The series of concerts were dedicated to the 25th anniversary of independence of the Turkic countries, including Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.

Kyrgyzstan wins World Nomad Games for second time

Kyrgyzstan won the 2nd World Nomad Games it hosted on 3-8 September in Issyk-Kul with the participation of more than 1.5 thousand sportsmen from 62 countries. Kyrgyzstan won 83 medals (27 gold, 26 silver and 30 bronze) and took the first place in medal standings as it did at the 1st World Nomad Games. The second place went to the team Turkmenistan with 23 medals (15 gold, 2 silver and 6 bronze), and the third – to Russia with 40 medals (14 gold, 10 silver and 16 bronze).

"The Selenga River is a main source of water for the Lake Baikal. Therefore, Russia now urges Mongolia not to build the HPP there, as it will pose threats to the Baikal Lake. However, Mongolia said these HPPs are needed to obtain the necessary amount of electricity," according to Ergashev.

Kyrgyzstan has been ranked 60th among 149 countries in Basel Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Index released by the Basel Institute on Governance. The Index measures the risk of money laundering and terrorist financing of countries based on publicly available sources. A total of 14 indicators that deal with AML/CFT regulations, corruption, financial standards, political disclosure and rule of law are aggregated into one overall risk score. By combining these various data sources, the overall risk score represents a holistic assessment addressing structural as well as functional elements in the AML/CFT framework.

In 2016 Basel AML Index, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan are among Top-14 countries of Europe and Central Asia with a high risk of terrorism financing.
