Mongolia opens first solar power plant

AKIPRESS.COM - The opening ceremony of Mongolia's first ever solar power station took place in Khongor soum of Darkhan-Uul province on January 19, reports news.mn.

The newly-built power station began its technical and operational trials from October 2016 and has been produced energy from on January 1, 2017.

The 10MW power station was built by the domestic company Solar Power International in cooperation with Japan’s Sharp Corporation and Shigemitsu Shoji Co. Ltd.

The solar power plant has a capacity of 10MW and is expected to produce 15.2 million kwt/hour electricity annually. More good news is that the station will cut carbon dioxide emissions by 14,746 tonnes.

CEO of Solar Power International, B.Mandalbayar, said that the new solar power station could potentially provide clean energy to 20,000 households. Officials also noted that the station was built to withstand temperatures as low as -40 degrees Celsius.
