Syrian rebels say no plan to sign communique at Astana talks

AKIPRESS.COM - The Syrian rebel delegation has no plans to sign a communique at the Astana talks, its spokesman Yahya al-Aridi told reporters on Tuesday, Reuters reported.

The talks on Syrian settlement entered the second day on Tuesday.

Only Russia and Turkey, possibly Iran, will sign communique following intra-Syrian talks in Astana, Aridi said.

"The communique would be just issued by the parties, the Russian Federation, Turkey and possibly Iran because of the fact that it was on the Moscow meeting… It is not meant to be signed by the parties [the Syrian government and opposition]," Sputnik reported Aridi as saying.

"I don't believe that the communique will be so strong that it can be taken to the UN," he added.

The talks are held at the Rixos President Astana in downtown Astana. The participants are due to sum up the results of the meeting at a joint news conference at the Kazmedia center, according to TASS. The event is scheduled for 2 p.m. local time (08:00 GMT). The representatives of all the delegations are expected to attend the news conference.
