Kyrgyzstan international goalkeeper joins Maldivian club United Victory for 2017 season

AKIPRESS.COM - Kyrgyzstani goalkeeper Ruslan Amirov has joined Maldivian club, United Victory Sports Club for its 2017 campaign, said Bryan Lim, Sporting Director of the Trebol Sports International, a professional football management agency of Amirov.

Ruslan, who was capped by Kyrgyzstan at both the Olympic and Senior level, could not wait to link up with his new employers. The new season would witness a new League format with winners from the 2nd Division and Island tournament joining the final stages.

“I am happy to make my first venture into Asian football after playing in Turkey and Kazakhstan. I am looking forward to the new footballing and cultural experience in a beautiful country like Maldives. I will like to thank the club and my intermediary, Trebol Sports International for making this possible.”

United Victory's General Secretary and Coach, Ismail Shafeeu shared his views on the capture of the former FC Alga Bishkek's custodian.

“We surprised many with our 4th place finish in our maiden season. Hence, the club's objective for this season is to build a better team than last year's. Obviously, we want to want to qualify for the Dhiiveni Premier League and if we have a better squad than last year, why can't we emulate last season's feat? I believe that Ruslan will be that vital cog to lead us to success.”

Ismail recognized Ruslan's bravery and commanding presence in the box. He elaborated:” My coaching staff and I are attracted by his playing style. He not only possesses quick reflexes but is a good distributor of the ball. His international experience will boost the overall playing standard of the team. These are qualities we look for in a goalkeeper.”

Though Ruslan is not familiar with Maldivian football, he certainly knows that his rival for the No. 1 jersey in the Kyrgyzstan National Team, Pavel Matiash is playing for Maziya SRC.

“I do not wish to be drawn into comparison with Pavel. He is a good player and I wish him well. However, we possess different qualities and that is what makes both of us unique in our own ways. I welcome healthy competition between us as this will raise the standard of both Maldivian and Kyrgyzstan football. Hopefully, the folks back home will pay more attention to the Maldivian League because the two of us are playing there!”
