Life in rural Kyrgyzstan: Married couple in Naryn besides own 5 children takes care of 30 orphans

AKIPRESS.COM - Naryn inhabitant Aktanbek Saktanbekov have been taking care of orphans for 18 years. He spent his childhood in orphanage and vowed to take care of children left without parents when he's grown up.

“I have always felt bad about orphans. After orphanage, I went to the army. In 1989, I married Bermet Kirdibasheva. We have four sons and one daughter. Having talked to my wife, we've decided to adopt orphans,” told Saktanbekov.

During 18 years, this married couple adopted 30 kids. The elder ones already have built their own families, other children are about 12 years old.

“I try to make our children to communicate with each other closely. I try to give each of them enough attention and care because each of them is special. Five of adopted kids are absolute orphans, others have lost only one parent and some kids were in hard situation. Now I live with seven children from 30 adopted. The elder sons do boxing, play football, my daughters try sewing and dress-making,” shared Saktanbekov.

He added that for six children he is given financial aid of 1,000 soms for each.
