Kazakh Ambassador meets with Romanian foreign minister

AKIPRESS.COM - On February 14, Ambassador of Kazakhstan in Romania Daulet Batrashev met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Teodor-Viorel Meleșcanu, Kazakh foreign ministry said.

During the meeting they discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation in light of celebrating the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries on July 15.

The parties reviewed the schedule of bilateral political contacts for 2017 and underlined the importance of joint work in specific areas of cooperation including trade, economy, culture, and education.

The parties discussed Romania's participation in the upcoming International Specialized Exhibition EXPO 2017, international initiatives of Kazakhstan, primarily, multilateral cooperation with regard to Kazakhstan's non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council for 2017-2018.

The ambassador informed Minister Meleșcanu on the ongoing democratic transformation in the context of the constitutional reform in Kazakhstan related to the redistribution of power among governmental bodies, the main aspects of the presidential address to the nation "Third Modernization of Kazakhstan: Global Competitiveness", as well as on the implementation of the "100 Concrete Steps" Plan of the Nation set out by President Nursultan Nazarbayev within the five institutional reforms.

Teodor Meleșcanu commended Kazakhstan's foreign policy activities and welcomed the international initiatives of President Nazarbayev, emphasizing their relevance and significance. Speaking of the constitutional reform, put forward by the Kazakh leader, the Minister underlined that the proposals are not only important for Kazakhstan's society but also serve as a signal to the countries of the European Union, clearly indicating Kazakhstan's readiness to ensure further democratization of society, particularly important following the signing of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the EU and Kazakhstan.

Highlighting the role of President Nazarbayev and the importance of his address "Third Modernization of Kazakhstan", the Minister said Kazakhstan's model of economic development and the dynamics of political transformation in the country can be viewed as an example for the post-Soviet space, specifically, for the countries of the Central Asian region where Kazakhstan is a key partner for Romania.
