Tajikistan, Turkey discuss cooperation

AKIPRESS.COM - Tajik President Emomali Rahmon met Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Tugrul Turkes, the Tajik president’s press service reported.

Rahmon and Turkes discussed on February 17 the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkey.

The meeting was called a logical continuation of bilateral interest in the further development and expansion of relations, the statement said.

It was pointed out that this year marks 25 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Turkey, and now this process is regulated by more than 60 interstate, intergovernmental and inter-agency documents in the fields of politics, economy, trade, science, culture, etc.

The volume of trade between the two countries, despite the impact of the global financial and economic crisis, has been characterized sustainable, as well as activation of the work of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, organization of Business Forum, intensification of activity of the Council of Tajikistan and Turkey have been named effective ways of strengthening bilateral relations.

It was expressed interest in attraction of Turkish business and investment community in the implementation of projects for the construction of joint ventures in the four free economic zones of Tajikistan, as well as the establishment of cooperation in the spheres of industry, agriculture, international transport, tourism, strengthening of inter-regional cooperation in the energy and communication areas.

The sides also exchanged views on expansion of humanitarian cooperation directions, especially on protection of ideological space of countries from the propagation of extremist and destructive ideologies, expressed interesting ideas and suggestions about the importance of bilateral and multilateral cooperation of Tajikistan and Turkey in the fight against international terrorism and extremism and other transnational crimes.
