Life in rural Kyrgyzstan: Japanese Yuko Nakano teaches Naryn women weaving

AKIPRESS.COM - Weaving factory Saori is working for six years in Alysh village of Naryn region.

Japanese craftswomen come to the factory to teach local women weaving, reports Turmush.

One of them is 34-year-old Yuko Nakano, who arrived in Naryn for two years under the JICA program.

It's been a year since Nakano came to Kyrgyzstan. Since that time she teaches women in the factory.

“Now we weave purses, scarfs, ties, handbags, pouches and etc. They cost from 280 som and higher and are sold in all Kyrgyz regions. I am economist and weaver. I was weaving national clothes and belts in Japan,” told Nakano.

She also said she learned Kyrgyz for three months in Japan.

Answering the question what she liked in Kyrgyz cuisine, Nakano said she liked tandoor bread, meat, pastries and bakery.
