Mongolian Foreign Minister addresses UN Human Rights Council

AKIPRESS.COM - Mongolia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ts.Munkh-Orgil, has delivered remarks at a high-level segment of the 5th meeting of the 34th session of the Human Rights Council. The session is taking place in Geneva, Switzerland from February 27-March 24.

In his remarks, the Foreign Minister outlined policy, actions and measures carried out by the Government of Mongolia towards the protection and promotion of human rights on a national level and in international fora.

During his participation in the Human Rights Council, Minister Ts.Munkh-Orgil met with high-level international representatives, such as Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, Michael Møller, High Commissioner of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Zeid bin Ra'ad, Deputy Secretary-General of United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Joachim Reiter, the Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan, Kairat Abdrakhmanov, the Foreign Minister of Albania, Ditmir Bushati, and Australia's Minister for International Development and the Pacific, Concetta Fierravanti-Wells, to discuss bilateral ties and international issues of mutual concern.

Also, Minister Ts.Munkh-Orgil and Albania's Ditmir Bushati signed an agreement between the Government of Mongolia and the Council of Ministers of Albania on mutual visa exemption for diplomatic and official passport holders.

Established in 2006, the Human Rights Council, is an inter-governmental body within the United Nations system made up of 47 States responsible for the promotion and protection of all human rights around the globe. In October 2015, Mongolia was elected as a Human Rights Council member and will be serving as such until 2018 to contribute in the activities of the international community on human rights protection and promotion and to be involved in the decision-making process of the council.
