Life in rural Kyrgyzstan: Most expensive cattle in Tokmok bazaar - stallion for 300,000 som and horse for $14,000

AKIPRESS.COM - There is a big cattle market located in Tokmok, some 80 km east of Bishkek, that only works early in the mornings of weekends.

Market worker Eldan Mederbekov said that the cattle bazaar was founded 60 years ago. Prices for cattle are different. For instance, the price for sheep is 4,000-6,000 som, lambs – 3,000-4,000 som, cows – 50,000-80,000 som, horses – 80,000-150,000 som, stallions – 30,000-50,000 som, camels – from 60,000 som, yaks – 80,000 som, and bulls – from 100,000 som.

“The most expensive cattle in the market is a stallion for 300,000 som and a horse for $14,000. You can also see livestock weighting more than 1,000 kg,” said Mederbekov.
