At the Cabinet session on March 10, the head of state highlighted the importance of the Turkmen-Qatari summit talks and noted that the Central Asian country is seeking to promote the multi-aspect cooperation with considerable potential.

The first official visit of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Qatar took place in October 2010 and the first official visit by Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Turkmenistan took place in March 2016. Both of the high-level visits marked the important stage in deepening the Turkmen-Qatari cooperation.

The upcoming talks will focus on the issues of cooperation in oil and gas and processing sectors, and the chemical industry. Trade, transport and communications, high technology, finance and investment, education, tourism, construction, particularly large sports facilities, are identified as the priority areas of mutually beneficial partnership.

In the run up to the Turkmen leader’s visit, Qatar hosted the Days of Turkmenistan Culture that emphasized the importance of humanitarian contacts as a determining factor in strengthening relations between the two friendly countries.

The summit talks in Doha are expected to result in signing a number of bilateral documents.

Over the last years, Qatar has been rendering extensive support to Turkmenistan in backing its global initiatives, including the proposals put forward at the UN General Assembly on energy security and wider international partnership in transport.

The Intergovernmental Commission for Trade-Economic Cooperation, which has significantly contributed to signing a number of documents on the key trends of bilateral partnership, plays an instrumental role in fostering the Turkmen-Qatari cooperation.
