XIII-century tomb found in western Mongolia

AKIPRESS.COM - A XIII-century tomb containing the remains of a human has been discovered in Bayan-Ulgii, western province of Mongolia. A tomb is located in the Tekhtiin Valley of Altantsogts soum. Scientists from the Institute of History and Archeology at the Mongolian Academy of Sciences defined that the rock tomb belongs to the XIII century, reports news.mn.

Assuming this dating is correct, it can be assumed that the person buried may have served under Chinggis Khaan or Kubilai Khaan.

The grave contained many items such as the dead body in a wooden coffin, a saddle, stirrups, bow with arrow case, wooden cap, felt ongo and cotton deel, which have been preserved well. The bow, arrow case, saddle and deel were intact and the scientists noted that the felt ongo, an object of worship to medieval Mongolians, has been found in this form for the first time.
