Russia, Tajikistan to draw line at air travel issue

AKIPRESS.COM - Russian and Tajik authorities will today continue talks on air communication, reports Asia-Plus news agency.

Deputy Minister of Transport of Tajikistan Sherali Gandjalzoda is now in Moscow to discuss air travel issues with Russian authorities.

"The Tajik side has its proposals that will be offered to the Russian side," noted the Ministry.

On April 3, the Russian Ministry of Transport has banned several Tajik flights performed by Somon Air to Russia. In response to this, the Tajik aviation authorities decided to impose restrictions to Russian flights operated by the Yamal airlines from Zhukovsky airport.

The dispute between aviation authorities of the two countries started since last year when the Tajik side refused to permit flights of the Russian Yamal airlines from Domodedovo airport to Tajikistan. The Russian side, in turn, terminated Somon Air's flights to Russian cities.

During negotiations of the two sides in January, authorities agreed that the Yamal airlines will start performing flights to Tajikistan since the beginning of summer season (from March 26).

In the beginning of the summer season, the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan proposed the Russian side to perform flight to Kulyab and Kurgan-Tyube, when the Russian side planned to operate flights to Dushanbe and Khujand.

As a result, the Tajik side agreed on Russian flights to Dushanbe and Khujand twice a week, but the Russian side again did not agree on that.
