AKIPRESS.COM - President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov congratulated Moon Jae-in on his victory in South Korea's presidential election.

"On behalf of the people and Government of Turkmenistan and personally, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov addressed sincere congratulations to Moon Jae-in on his election as the President of the Republic of Korea," the statement said.

In his message, the Head of the State expressed firm belief that the friendly and beneficial relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea, based on the principles of mutual respect, trust and understanding, would continue developing in the interests of both nations.

President of Turkmenistan wished good health, happiness and wellbeing to Moon Jae-in, and progress and prosperity to the Korean people.

Mr Moon was sworn in on Wednesday. Final results show Mr Moon took 41.1% of the vote on Tuesday, while conservative candidate Hong Joon-pyo took 25.5%. Centrist Ahn Cheol-soo, widely seen as a strong contender, came third with 21.4%.

He succeeded Park Geun-hye, who is accused of allowing a close friend to extort money from companies. She denies all wrongdoing.
