Turkmen athletes won 13 medals at Islamic Solidarity Games

AKIPRESS.COM - Baku Olympic Stadium hosted a closing ceremony of the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games on May 22. Competitions in 20 events brought together more than 3,000 athletes from 57 states. At these games, the Turkmen athletes won 13 medals (two gold, four silver, seven bronze), that secured them the 15th place in the team standings, reported Turkmenistan Today state news agency.

Among the national team of Turkmenistan, boxers won three medals: Arslanbek Achilov won gold in men's under 81 kg, Yakub Meredov won the silver medal in men's under 59 kg, Horsant Imankuliev won bronze in men's 60 kg.

In the weightlifting tournament, schoolgirl of the 11th grade from the Ashgabat secondary school #36 Polina Guryeva (lady's under 63 kg) gained the gold medal.  Gulnabat Kadyrova (women's 69 kg) won one silver medal.

In swimming, Merdan Atayev won two medals at once – two silvers, in the 50-meter sprint heats and the 100-meter backstroke.

The Greco-Roman fighters -- Seidulla Tazaev (men's 59 kg) and Shermet Permanov (mens 75 kg) -- brought two bronze medals to the Turkmen national team. In freestyle wrestling, Yusup Melejaev (under 97 kg) won the bronze award.

In judo, Mariya Lohova won the bronze medal. And in the wushu tournament, Annageldy Agamyradov won bronze in weight category under 56 kg.

Tennis players Anastasia Prenko, Jahan Bairamova and Guljan Muhammetgulyeva  won the third place in the team competition.

In the framework of the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games, presentation of the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games was held by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Azerbaijan jointly with the State Committee for Sport.
