AKIPRESS.COM - Chairman of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan Faizulla Mullajanov, who worked on this position for 14 years and named by Global Finance as one of the best heads of central bank in 2015, passed away in Tashkent. He was 67.
The funeral will be held today in the afternoon, relatives said.
According to them, Mullajanov was suffering chronic kidney disease and diabetes over the past 2-3 years. Last year, he received hemodialysis due to a kidneys' fail.
Mullajanov is one of the officials, who worked for a long period of time with the first President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov and retained his seat in Shavkat Mirziyoyev's presidency.
Despite the fact that Mullajanov had health problems, Karimov refused to accept his resignation even after a short coma due to a kidney fail.
Deputy Chairman Saidkamol Hodjayev is now acting head of central bank.
