Mongolia-Kuwait Intergovernmental commission holds its first meeting

AKIPRESS.COM - The first meeting of the Intergovernmental commission between Mongolia and Kuwait was held on 23-24 May in Kuwait, Montsame state news agency reported.

Mongolian delegation led by Head of Cabinet Secretariat J.Munkhbat took part in the meeting, where talks, touching on the development of economic cooperation between the two countries, issues on investment and nonrefundable aid, implementation of joint projects and developing cooperation in cultural and media sector, were held.

The parties noted that friendly relations between Mongolia and Kuwait has been developed for over 40 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, particularly political relations has strengthened to a high level. They also agreed to increase investment and expand cooperation between private businessmen. The Mongolian part requested a support from Kuwait to implement some projects, including building of National Central Library and paving a landing strip of Undurkhaan Airport with asphalt.

The Kuwaiti part informed that they are studying a Mongolian proposal on protocol on veterinary, hygienic and quarantine requirements for exports of meat and live animal from Mongolia to Kuwait and establishing a cooperation document between standards organizations of the two countries.

The parties agreed on cooperation in the media sector, organizing study tours and taking measures to mutually promote culture and traditions of the two countries. The Kuwaiti part proposed to establish a cooperation program in the culture sector and handed over a draft document. During the meeting, the Mongolian side also suggested to import crude oil from Kuwait and process it in Mongolia, train professionals in the petroleum industry in Kuwait and include Mongolia in its oil supply schedule starting 2018. The Kuwaiti part invited Mongolia to attend the second international trade fair to be held in February 2018.

Within the visit, Head of Cabinet Secretariat J.Munkhbat met with Director General of Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development Abdulwahab Al-Bader on May 23 and they signed a financial agreement on financing construction of a Burn Treatment Center of Mongolia with a grant aid of USD8 million by the Government of Kuwait.

Mr J.Munkhbat expressed gratitude to the Kuwait Fund for contribution to social and economic development of Mongolia and bilateral cooperation through successful implementation of programs and projects and assured to cooperate further at a wider scope. The Kuwait Fund has an interest to take part in development cooperation projects in infrastructure and health sectors.
