AKIPRESS.COM - Parliament of Kyrgyzstan passed the amendments to the law on presidential and parliamentary elections in three readings on May 31.
The amendments propose to reschedule the presidential vote to October 15.
The bill also seeks to increase the electoral deposit for presidential candidates from 100,000 to 1 million som.
Candidates will also have to take a Kyrgyz language test based on the Kyrgyztest system.
The amendments also propose to raise the election threshold from current 7% to 9%. If adopted, the changes will introduce a norm, according to which a resigning MP must be replaced by the new MP of the same gender. These norms would come into force, if adopted, from January 2020.
