AKIPRESS.COM - The World Bank will provide $225.7 million for rehabilitation of the Nurek hydropower plant in Tajikistan.
The agreement on financing was signed on Friday by Minister of Finance of Tajikistan Abdusalom Kurbonyon and WB Country Manager in Tajikistan Jan-Peter Olters, Sputnik Tajikistan reports.
The funds’ quarter is a grant, while three quarters are the loan, the reports said.
The Nurek HPP with the project capacity of more than 3,000 megawatts is a key asset of Tajikistan’s energy system. It generates about 70% of the total annual electricity demand of the country. The equipment and infrastructure of the plant need to be renovated.
