AKIPRESS.COM - Kyrgyzstan is ranked the 71st out of 180 countries in the Environmental Performance Index (EPI) conducted by the Yale and Columbia Universities.
The EPI assesses country activities on priority ecological issues, including 9 problematic fields. The EPI uses more than 20 indicators for the assessment, such as impact on health, air quality, water and sanitation, water resources, agriculture, water management, forests, biodiversity and habitat, climate and energy.
Central Asian countries are ranked as following: Kazakhstan – 69, Kyrgyzstan – 71, Tajikistan – 72, Turkmenistan – 84, and Uzbekistan – 118.
Finland, Iceland and Sweden are ranked at the top of EPI, while Madagascar, Eritrea and Somalia are placed at the bottom of the ranking.
