Russia in talks with Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan on sending troops to Syria

AKIPRESS.COM - Vladimir Shamanov, the Head of the State Duma Defense Committee, told RIA Novosti that Russia is negotiating with Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan to send their soldiers to Syria.

Earlier, representative of the Turkish President Ibragim Kalyn said that the Russian side proposed to sent troops from Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan to de-escalation zones of Syria.

“Negotiations are now underway. The issue of participation of the Russian military police in resolution of the problems in Syria is being worked out. The proposal to our colleagues from Kyrgyzstana and Kazakhstan is being considered as well. No decision has been taken yet,” Shamanov said.

The talks are aslo being held with Turkey, as they participants of Astana talks as well, he noted.

Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the General Staff of Kyrgyzstan told Interfax that they do not have any information about the talks with Russia on sending troops to Syria.

Kazakh authorities have not yet commented on the information.

Spokesman to Russian President Dmitry Peskov has not answered to the request as well.

During the international talks in Astana on May 3-4, representatives of the countries-guarantors of armistice in Syria (Russia, Iran, Turkey) signed a memorandum on creation of 4 de-escalation zones in Syria.

Then the head of the Russian delegation, Special Representative of the President of Russia Aleksandr Lavrentev, said that Russia is ready to send its observers to the areas of security zones. According to him, other countries might also participate in that, but only on the basis of a consensus. The Iranian side also expressed readiness to send its observers to Syria if the relevant agreement is reached.
