Iranian Embassy shuts down its office in Tajikistan

AKIPRESS.COM - The Embassy of Iran in Tajikistan closed its office in Khujand city on June 29.

A source in the Embassy of Iran said that the office was shut down at the request of the Tajik authorities.

Two weeks ago, the Cultural and Trade Representation of the Embassy of Iran received an official notification on shutdown. Then the Iranian Embassy in Tajikistan placed its employees on leave, the source said.

Whether the Embassy will resume the work of its representation or not is not reported. The Embassy of Iran in Tajikistan refused to comment on the decision to close its office in the administrative center of Sughd region.

Residents of Khujand often visited the Cultural Representation of the Iranian Embassy to use its library and free Internet. The office used to provide financial aid to local writers to publish books and organize trips of the Tajik scientists and students to Iran.

The relations between Tajikistan and Iran cooled down two years ago.
