14:17, 15 July 2017, 1126

AKIPRESS.COM - Prime Minister Sooronbai Jeenbekov has been nominated for president by the SDPK party.

The decision was made at the 16th congress of the party on July 15.

674 delegates voted for his candidacy with 0 being against, said chairperson of the accounts commission Jyldyz Smanbayeva.

In his remarks delivered at the congress, Jeenbekov said he is ready to work for Kyrgyzstan and praised the role of incumbent president Almazbek Atambayev, his fellow partisan, in bringing back the peace to the country during hard times.

"Our party has always been with the people and gone through the country's hard times for the prosperity of Kyrgyzstan's bright future, fought against the corruption and clan policy. Today people's trust in our party is the direct contribution of each member of the party and Almazbek Atambayev. I remember hard times 6-7 years ago: political games, 2-3 protests every day. People then got tired of the unrest and turbulence. In those difficult times, the situation was normalized by Almazbek Sharshenovich. We know how much effort and diligence he put on it. The economy of the country has improved, favorable conditions were created for medium and large businesses," Jeenbekov said.
